The Great Depression

Single(s): Fell In Love With The Game, When I Remember

Best Songs: Ask Me Now, Yemkela, Fell In Love With The Game, and We Are To Follow

Review: Blindside is back with a new and refreshing style. There is a significant difference between this album and About a Burning Fire, Which isn’t a bad thing whatsoever. I think this album was an improvement, not because of the style change, but because of its over-the-top passion, energy, and creativity. This album is absolutely amazing.

This album starts off with a dark intro in which Christian recites a couple lines about feeling lost and depressed that basically sums up the album. Then the intro fades into the techno-fueled, “This is a Heart Attack,” which is followed by the mellow yet powerful, “Ask Me Now.” "We’re All Going to Die,” is also a very powerful song about how people all over the world are dying at young ages for one reason or another. Christian’s vocals in this song are touching and focus you into the lyrics in a very emotional way. The song was partially inspired by a boy Christian met in Sounth Africa named Yamkela, which is the name of the next song on the album. “They never trained me for reality I’m a reality-TV clone” screams Christian in the track “Yamkela. This song talks about the reality of what is happening in South Africa, and with the boy, Yamkela. This is probably the heaviest song on the album along with "We Are to Follow," and contains some of the most intense lyrics known to Blindside. Next, “Put Back the Stars”, in my opinion the most depressing song on the album, yet finds a way to show a bit of hope. This song deals with the struggle to find yourself and how depressing it is to be lost.

The next half of the album continues with the release “Fell in Love with the Game.” This song is probably the catchiest song on the CD, but talks about the struggle to remember who you are, and how easy it is to get wrapped up in business instead of music itself. “City Lights,” one of the more mellow tracks one the album shows off Christian’s vocal range. “We Are to Follow” is a great addition to Blindside’s heavier songs, with its roaring guitar riffs and head throbbing screams. This is another great songthat gets Blindside's message across about our society, and how it’s easy to get wrapped up in things such as media. “You Must Be Bleeding Under Your Eyelids,” another original song title that might make you curious of what to expect. It turns out this song is simply about the need to try to fit into a certain mold. The song “My Alibi,” is a great rhythmic ballad about hope, relationships, and God. The next song is almost a screaming battle between Christian and the former vocalist of the band Self Minded. They scream about, as Christian stated, “….the desire to make someone proud of you.” “This Time,” one of Blindside’s slowest songs, talks about another man in South Africa named Sipho, who Christian visited. The last and most emotional song on the album is “When I Remember,” a beautiful song about hope and not being forgotten. This song ends the album perfectly.

In conclusion, this album is incredible, The Great Depression describes many of the problems in society and shows how depressing life can be at times. The album also focuses a great deal on hope, "A light at the end of the tunel." The album grows on me more and more every time I listen to it. Though a great effort, The Great Depression comes up short in comparison to Silence, but not by much. The Great Depression is a great experience and any Blindside fan should something something they like about it.

About A Burning Fire

[Vocals: 5 Music: 5 Lyrics: 4.5 Song Composition: 5]

Single(s): All of Us, About A Burning Fire

Best Songs: Eye of The Storm, All of Us, After You're Gone. Where The Sun Never Dies, About A burning Fire

Review: Another incredible album from Blindside, they've done it again. This time they've mixed things up a bit. In this albums they've used horns and yodeling woman. I'll get to that in a bit. Besides the fact that Blindside is experimenting with new elements, the sound in general has evolved overtime. With Silence the sound could be desribed as a wall of sound (that's how Blindside themselves desribe it). On About A Burning Fire, the music is more clear, and you can hear the instruments individually while still having that huge sound Blindside is known for.

Let's go back to the yodeling woman. On the track, Shekina, Blindside is accompanied by a woman who somewhat yodels. Blindside has explained that it's a noise cattle hearders make in Sweden. It doesn't really mean anything, it's just a noise. I personally think it sounds cool.

When I said About A Burning Fire still has that same huge sound, one of the best songs to show that, is "Eye Of The Storm". It's an incredible introduction to the CD. within in seconds Christian's gentle voice turns into throat bursting screams. This songs finds a way to be loud and gentle at the same time. Another incredible song is the single "All Of Us." This song, for me, is the greatest song ever devised. No lie. Christian's vocals sing softly, then when the chorus hits you feel the passion pouring out of him with is incredible screams. When you hear Christian sing you know he means every word he says.

Other great songs on this album are Die Buying, a fast-paced track about, the importance of freedom. Then it's Swallow, the song featured on "Need For Speed Underground."

This song is packed with energy. I love it. One of Blindside's best songs, After You're Gone is another passion track where Christian screams his heart out. Then the mellow and almost depressing "Roads" leads into the raging "About A Burning Fire". The most powerful Blindside song since "Nothing But Skin."

Blindside has once again made a masterpiece. It doesn't beat Silence, but it comes pretty close. About A Burning Fire is incredible and is a must buy! Go get it.

Single(s): Pitiful, Sleepwalking

Best Songs: Caught A Glimpse, Pitiful, Sleepwalking, Time Will Change Your Heart, She Shut Your Eyes, Silence

Review: This album was a big addition to their current discography. The song "Pitiful" appearing as backround music for many television shows and also, a short performance in the movie "Grind." The second single on this album was "Sleepwalking." Sleepwalking is one of the loudest and hardest songs on this album, a perfect concert song, and one of their most popular. The song that started this album off so perfectly is the song "Caught a Glimpse." The song begins with a quiet guitar solo and leads up to a crashing scream from the lead sing Christian Lindskog. The first four songs on this album were all potiential releases, which starts this album off incredibly. That might give you the impression that the album lacks later on, but that is not the case here. This album is deep and emotional, but still carries more energy and passion, in my opinion, than any band to date. The lyrics in this album are definetly one of the best I've heard from any artist or band. Although, I actually would say the previous album "A Thought Crushed My Mind," had the upper hand with lyrics. After a number of more emotional and also energetic songs, the album ends with true silence. At first you hear the sound of a train passing by then the guitarist, Simon playing the acoustic guitar along with Christian showing his more mellow side vocally. This album will never be forgotten for Blindside fans. It is a true work of art.

Single(s): King Of The Closet

Best Songs: As You Walk, King Of The Closet, Act, Across Waters, Nothing But Skin

Review: Blindside's second album takes a big leap into a heavier hardcore sound. After two years of intense touring Blindside breaks through with a huge amount of creativity. This album opened the door to their future as a band. The first song "Vow of Silence" kick starts the album with wild lung busting screams, pounding drums, grungy guitar sounds, and thumping bass lines. The first thing you notice about Blindside on this album is their energy. "King of the Closet" the single for this album is song about trying to avoid God when you've sinned. The lyrics are very poetic and contain well thought out metaphors. The fourth song on the album “My Mother’s Only Son” changes the pace a bit. The song shows a lot of passion and is very heartbroken. The rest of the songs continue to be very aggressive and fast paced. The song “Nara” is Blindside’s first and only all-Swedish song. The meaning of “Nara,” in English is, “Close.” The last song on the album is “Nothing but Skin” A nine minute long journey into Christian’s soul. It is very rare to find an artist that with make a song that reveals so much emotion. This album is incredible. It’s a complete masterpiece filled with all sorts of emotions. This is a must buy for any true Blindside fan.

Single(s): None

Best Song(s): Invert, Empty Box, One Mind, Daughter, Teddybear, Never

Review:

Blindside’s first album Self-titled is a very powerful album. Though not the best quality, it is still just as enjoyable as any other rock CD. The first song “Invert,” is one of the best Blindside songs ever made. It’s a fast paced and surprisingly catchy song. Another popular song from this album is “Superman.” This song goes back and fourth from being energetic to slow paced. “One Mind” is the first time Blindside uses their band name as a lyric. “Teddybear” is a song. The lyrics from this song are one the best on this album. “Teddybear” is about how you shouldn’t use God to make you feel better if you aren’t going to give something back to him. This album is a classic for Blindside, and I highly recommend it to any fan.

Review: There are two full length concerts, a gallery, music videos, and a documentary. There are a couple technical errors and inconvinences. For instance, the volume is at different levels depending on what page you are. The second full length concert didn't have a song selection screen. At times it takes too long to load. The sound wasn't always perfect, and neither was the picture. The overall quality was ok.

The content though, was very good. I still wanted more but, as a first DVD, it wasn't bad. They showed a lot of old footage that big Blindside fans should love. A lot of songs you might not have heard live will appear on this DVD like, "My Mother's Only Son," "You Can Hide it," "Time Will Change your Heart," and more. The thing that I love about this DVD is the footage of Blindside when they aren't performing. They are really funny. There are also 3 easter eggs with even more funny footage.

If you should get this DVD or not depends on how big of a Blindside fan you are. If you own more than two of their albums then in my mind, that quailfies you as a big enough fan to enjoy this DVD, but if you like a couple songs and aren't interested in who they are personally, then you should just stick with their CD's.
